Labrador Retriever Rescues Freezing Calf and then Refuses to Leave His Side

A yellow Labrador Retriever named Bosko found and saved a shivering calf in danger of dying of exposure on his family’s ranch. After the freezing calf was brought indoors to be looked after, Bosko refused to leave the baby cow’s side.

Redditor Oakenboken shared the heartwarming story and photos of Bosko and the calf they named Zeke in Imgur.

Oakenboken revealed that Bosko found Zeke almost dead from hypothermia in their feed lot and wrote, “His mother was too weak to care for him, and the cold and wet had nearly taken him.”

Oakenboken’s 72-year-old grandmother and mother loaded the calf onto a blanket and pulled him back to the house to warm him up and try and resuscitate him. Things didn’t look good because the calf’s “nose was frozen stiff and his eyes looked dead, but he was breathing…if barely.”

They placed blankets and heating pads around Zeke and gave him some antibiotics. Throughout their care Bosko refused to leave Zeke’s side.

After four hours, the baby calf began to move and his breathing became more regular. Bosko stood on watch the entire time. Later that night, they gave Zeke blankets, some stuffed animals and added a heater to the calf’s bedding.

Bosko was reluctant to come inside, but his brother, Duke took over watch.

The next day, the calf was looking more lively and ate a little.

By day three, the calf was up and about and eating without problems. After a few weeks, he was able to join the other cows. And six months later, Zeke was doing okay. He is a little smaller than the other cows, but his family says that’s to be expected given what he went through.

But the important thing is that Zeke survived and that’s in large part thanks to Bosko.
