German Shepherd Afraid of Everything Finds Happiness with Sanctuary Dogs

Lee Asher regularly rescues dogs from shelters who have high anxiety but a dog he rescued four months ago has one of the worst cases he’s seen. Opal is a white German Shepherd that Lee rescued and when he first met her she was afraid of everything.

She was so scared that Lee opted to integrate her slowly into the pack at The Asher House. That meant getting outside help from Lisa at Sweet Dog Days who helped Opal with one on one training and introducing Opal to a smaller group of dogs so that she could get comfortable around them. They then introduced Opal to the bigger pack at The Asher House.

Although Opal is coming out of her shell, Lee admits that Opal barely lets him pet her. She simply doesn’t want any human attention or affection. Whatever she went through, Opal has extreme anxiety around people, doesn’t trust them, and wants to avoid them.

On the other hand, she loves being around other dogs and gets a great deal of comfort from being around them. It’s because of this that Lee says Opal is a sanctuary dog. Opal wouldn’t do well in a home so life at the sanctuary is good for her and she is happy. It’s so fortunate that there’s a place like The Asher House for dogs like Opal. And it’s comforting to see her enjoying life among the pack. No matter how things go from here, Opal has found a home.
