Tree-Climbing Dog Loves To Spy on Her Neighbors Every Morning
If you expect to find Nola sniffing around or playing in the backyard like the other dogs in Vanessa and Ryan’s family, you’ll be sorely mistaken. That’s because she’s too busy climbing trees and spying on the neighbors.
Vanessa and Ryan began fostering Nola after she was rescued from a shelter in North Carolina. Although she’s blind in one eye, that doesn’t stop her from scaling the trees in their yard and hopping onto the fence to peek into the neighbor’s yard to check out the dogs who come to visit or say hello to their own. The dog is so keen on knowing the “goings on” in the neighborhood that she’s been nicknamed “Nosey Nola.”

The first time Vanessa saw Nola do it, she thought she was seeing things. Ryan was away at the time and didn’t believe it either until Vanessa caught the whole thing on video. Now, Vanessa says that climbing the fence is the first thing “Nosey Nola” does every morning when she’s let outside. There are two trees in the yard that she uses to climb, and she’s always careful to keep one of her back legs braced on the tree while her other paws balance on the fence. It’s an adorable and unusual climbing routine!
The couple ended up adopting Nola from North Country Pet Adoption shortly after fostering her because she fit in so well with their family and they fell in love with her. They also did an Embark DNA test, curious as to what breed might contribute to her climbing skills. The test revealed that Nola is a mix of Treeing Walker Coonhound (how appropriate!), German Shepherd, American English Coonhound, and Labrador Retriever.
