Coonhound Finds Freedom And Love After Rescue From Laboratory
A young coonhound named Otis is discovering the joys of life after being rescued from a laboratory. For a year, Otis was used as a testing dog until he was saved by the Beagle Freedom Project. Under-socialized and unsure, he went through several foster homes—until Robert noticed him.
Robert had recently lost his own dog and initially planned to foster Otis. But just 15 minutes after bringing him home, he realized Otis wasn’t going anywhere.

Robert initially thought he might face behavioral challenges with Otis. He noticed that Otis is reactive to screeching noises and other sounds that freak him out. However, Robert established a calm and consistent routine that helps Otis feel more confident. The two regularly visit the ocean—something Otis absolutely loves. The ocean has become the ultimate symbol of freedom for the once-caged pup, and he’s blossomed into the beautiful dog he was always meant to be.
