Blind Pit Bull Abandoned In Woods Now Loves Ice Cream and Wants a Forever Family

Animal rescuers with Lucky Dog Refuge found an abused and abandoned Pit Bull curled up in a ball on the verge of dying. The emaciated Pit Bull had been left in the woods and was in such poor health and spirit that they could tell she was ready to give up on life.

Rescuer Stacey lead her back to the car with food and called her Halo. Halo was so disoriented because couldn’t understand that people were being nice to her. Lucky Dog Refuge took her to a veterinarian where she was put on antibiotics and a nutritional program. They determined she was fully blind. She went home with Stacey for foster care and although there were some touch and go moments, Halo proved she’s a fighter and she pulled through.

Although they weren’t sure if she was going to pull through back in September of 2020 when she was rescued, by January Halo was healthy enough to go to Lucky Dog Refuge’s main shelter in Stamford, Connecticut to begin her search for a forever family. She is very smart, learns quickly, and is a happy-to-be-loved “hippo”. She also loves ice cream! Her rescuers call her a real “angel.” They are looking for a mellow home for her, preferably with a yard.

Pupdate:

We have the most wonderful news – Halo has found her forever family! Lucky Dog Refuge shared the news that Halo has settled into her new home and then some. Halo’s mom shared this heartwarming update on how Halo is doing, which she shared with the rescue group on Facebook:

“Our little Halo is not little anymore. She is a big girl because she sleeps in a big bed now. We don’t even think she knows or remembers her doggie bed. The best plan is to be on the couch with TV on during the day. Yes, it’s more fun to have TV on than radio.”

“Awww, maybe we should mention the food too. Hmm what does she loves? Better question would be what she doesn’t like? … I’m sure I don’t have to mention the swimming pool in our living room from drooling if we are eating. LOL.”

“Breakfast or dinners are the cutes. As soon as she hears I’m in the kitchen making her “fancy” food she would be marching down the hallway while barking loud to make sure she gets her portion and won’t miss her.”

“Ohh yeah…. And She makes cute funny noises if I leave her in bed alone to let me know she is waiting for me to get back. Yes, we do sleep together so we won’t feel lonely during the nights and if we wake up in the middle of the night from the nightmares we get big licks and kisses and go back to sleep.”

“When is time to go to work, she will start hitting my fingers and won’t let them go. She holds them tight and won’t let go to make sure I won’t leave.”

“If I work from home, she would take over my working chair and I have to work on my computer sitting on the floor. That’s how we work together.”

“One more thing I can’t miss. Car keys. Oh yeah, that is one one thing we can’t touch in the house. Either we have to separate all the keys to keep them by them selfs or pick them up so gently without noticing otherwise she would be by the door before I turn around. How she does it? I have no clue. As soon as she hears sound of the keys, She would turn into missile. Jumping off the couch avoiding coffee table, arm chair and walls standing between me and back doors letting me know she is ready.”

“Haha, the is the most challenging part of our day.”

“There is so much more that is so special about her.”

It sounds to us like Halo is one very happy dog and has the perfect home!
