Hammie the Pit Bull’s new dad first saw him on what was the worst day of his life. Hammie’s previous owners drove him to the parking lot of a Dollar General and threw him out of the car and drove off.
Hammie’s dad was out shopping and loading groceries into the car when he saw Hammie being abandoned. Dad told GeoBeats Animals, “I was just standing there like ‘What’s going on?'”
The pittie began chasing after the car and running behind it to try and catch up to them. But Dad knew that he couldn’t leave Hammie and thought to himself “I’m going to to get him.” Even though Hammie barked at him, he rescued him and brought him home. That was the first day of Hammie’s new life.
The first two days, Hammie was so exhausted he just slept. His Mom and Dad didn’t give up on him. The brought him to the vet to get checked over but Hammie didn’t have any trace of his former life. He didn’t have a microchip and no one came forward to claim him after they posted up pictures to social media. So they decided to keep him.
Hammie’s new family could tell that Hammie had his quirks. He nurses on pillows, he’s got a lot of “triggers” and he doesn’t like to be left alone. Mom calls him an “anxious teddy bear.” But their other dogs have helped him be more comfortable and he is very loving with the entire family. His Dad says of Hammie, “We don’t know what happened to him in his past life but he’s loved now.”
