Lost Dog Reunites With Family After Surviving 7 Nights on Steep Cliff

A mastiff-retriever cross who disappeared from her home has been rescued from a narrow dangerous cliff edge where she had been trapped for seven nights.

Luna chased an animal out of the yard of her family’s home in Victoria, British Columbia. It’s believed she fell off a cliff and landed on a two-foot wide ledge where she remained until she was found.

Saryta Schaerer, Luna’s owner, and locals had been frantically searching for her. But it was a neighbor across the water who heard Luna’s cries for help. He didn’t know where the barking was coming from and took to the water with his boat to see if he could pinpoint where the sound was coming from.

“I used a pot and pan, and every time I banged on the pot and pan the dog barked back,” Cheeke told CTV News.

He provided recordings to a pet rescue group. After carefully combing the area a team of searchers found Luna and were able to rescue her off the cliff side.

Cheeke says his own dog had passed away recently so he was happy to have helped reunited Luna with her family. “I lost my dog last year, so it was good,” he said.
