If you are looking for a Halloween treat that your dogs will love, you will want to check out these DIY dog treats that are in the shape of Jack-o-lanterns and made from pumpkin and peanut butter!
Gone to the Snow Dogs loves to treat her huskies to homemade treats and in this video she shows how to make these easy treats that she says are a “hit” with her dogs.
The ingredients she uses for this recipe are:
2 cups of wheat flour
3/4 cup pumpkin (plain, no sugar)
1/2 cup peanut butter (no sugar, no xylitol)
1 tbsp coconut oil
1/2 tsp baking powder
few drops food coloring (optional)
candy melts (note: these contain sugar and are optional)
yogurt chips (note: these contain sugar and are optional)
Preheat the oven to 375.
Bake for 25 minutes, then let sit for around 2 hours in oven with heat off.
Watch the video for the full step-by-step of the cookie recipe (and enjoy watching the Huskies eat the treats!)
It should be noted that Gone to the Snow Dogs cautions, “I’m neither a vet nor an animal nutritionist, so it’s advisable to consult with your own authority when trying new foods, and also to ensure that your dog’s home cooked diet is balanced and includes all of the nutrients that are necessary for your dog’s health. As with ALL treats, feed in moderation, and don’t feed anything to your dogs that you don’t feel comfortable feeding them. These are treats, not meal replacements.”
