Animal control investigators in Colorado Springs are asking for the public's help to find man seen with a dog a few days before she died.
The young female Pit Bull terrier-type dog was found dead in the stairwell of a Colorado Springs hotel on Wednesday February 27 in afternoon. Surveillance footage from the Crosslands Economy Studios hotel shows the dog being walked by a black man in a blue coat a few days before she was found.
The man is not currently a suspect, but authorities would like to speak with him to find out what might have happened to the dog.
Although it's not clear if a crime was committed, the dog had an injury to her neck, with what investigators at first thought might be a bullet wound. However no bullet was found on the scene, so a necropsy will be performed to determine what might have caused the dog's death.
"This is a very distinct pit bull terrier-type dog, that's all white and has a black spot over its eye,” Joe Stafford, animal law enforcement director at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region told KKTV.
He added, "These investigations are very emotionally draining, trying to find out what happened to the animal and really bring justice to the situation, which is what we're here to do."
The hotel is located in 3400 block of Afternoon Circle in Colorado Springs. The surveillance video is from Sunday February 24 in the morning.
The Humane Society of Pikes Peak Region is asking anyone with information on the dog or the man seen in the video to contact them at 473-1741.
