A Plano, Texas police patrolman who saved an elderly dog from drowning has won fans from across the country thanks to his actions.

An elderly dog who fell in a pool was rescued by a policeman

Officer Eric Elliott pulled the 15-year-old dog from a pool after the dog fell in and couldn't get out. He heard a call that a dog had been clinging to the edge of a backyard pool for 20 minutes and couldn't hang on much longer.

Even though it wasn't his call, he took it anyway. "Just reading the notes on the call, it sounded like the dog was in some serious trouble," Elliott said. "He really didn't want anything to do with me. He turned his head away, and I just said, 'If he's going to bite me, he's going to bite me, but I'm going to pull him out anyway,' so I did and was just glad I was close enough to help."

Officer Elliott you are awesome and a true hero. That dog certainly had an angel watching over him that day!!!!
Events like this get such huge recognition because they are so rare these days when all you read about is cops mismanaging dog situations which result in the needless slaughter of the dog. It is no less deserved though. We need more police officers like this one. Let's keep celebrating them.
Our human best friends' have been rescuing us for centuries, it is humane that we are returning the favor. You are an exemplary public servant for others to follow. Great job! Thank you!

Dear Officer Elliott....Thank You so very much for doing what you did not have to do to save a 15 year old dog from drowning. Having saved animals, mostly dogs for 48 years, I know the dog appreciates what you did! Many blessings to you Sir! You are so deserving! I know the owners and every animal lover, from the comments above, are indebted to you. Merry Christmas to you and yours! May 2013 be an abundant year for you also.

You are a beautiful soul, Officer Eric Elliott and what every officer of the law should aspire to be. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Officer Elliott thank you for going above and beyond for this tired 15-year old dog that surely would have died had you not answered the call. Many others likely wouldn't have taken the chance on being bitten, but you threw caution to the wind and went for it, subsequently saving the dogs life. Thank you for being the kind of man that does that. You are truly in the right profession. May God bless and keep you safe.
Way to go Eric. I hope they put up some kind of a fence, so this does not happen again.
