Wonderful Dog In Shelter for Nearly 5 Years Adopted and Now Won’t Stop Smiling

A dog who spent nearly five years in an animal shelter won’t stop smiling after finally finding her forever home.

The staff at Capital Humane Society (CHS) in Lincoln, Nebraska, are smiling too, because the long-awaited adoption couldn’t have happened to a more “wonderful dog.”

Baby Girl arrived at CHS on December 7, 2017, according to the rescue. During the years that followed, the dog didn’t find anyone interested in adopting her. But on March 15, 2022 she finally that someone. The rescue waited a few months to announce Baby Girl’s adoption to be sure she settled nicely into her new home.

“March 15th was a big day for all of us at CHS because it was our beloved Baby Girl’s Gotcha Day!!” the shelter wrote on Facebook.

Since being adopted, Baby Girl has returned to visit the humane society’s Pieloch Pet Adoption Center to say ‘hello’ and CHS said that she is “happier than ever.” They also shared how their long-time resident is adjusting to life outside the shelter.

“Baby Girl has brought so much joy to my life,” Baby Girl’s adoptive mom shared with CHS. “She loves her daily walks and going outside. She loves her yard and would rather be outside sunning herself than being inside any day! She can’t get enough belly rubs, and she has to be touching me at all times.”

“Baby Girl has really settled into my home and bonded with me and my mom so well, I can’t imagine not having her in my life,” Baby Girl’s new mom continued. “She is very much a one person dog but doesn’t care about other people/dogs as long as she has her space.”

Baby Girl’s new mom is also thankful that CHS was so steadfast in caring for Baby Girl over the years and that they never gave up on her.

“I can’t thank the staff at Pieloch enough for taking such good care of her and letting me have a chance at giving her a forever home,” Baby Girl’s mom concluded. “I could not have asked for a better dog.”

For CHS, it’s a wish come true. They concluded their Facebook post by writing, “We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this wonderful dog who captured all of our hearts!”
