Your sweet Rosie looked a lot like my Mable the Shih Tzu I lost in 2012. She was sick for a long time, so we knew it was going to happen, but it never gets any easier. If it did, you probably shouldn't have a dog in the first place. Unfortunately, a month later we lost our Briard Gershwin. We still haven't recovered from these deaths. I don't know if we ever will. We are now left with our rescued Laphso Apso.(Spelling?) He's a great little dog. Unfortunately we were never able to house break him. We know and have tried every trick in the book. When we realized it was impossible we already loved him, and wouldn't dream of giving him back. So now he walks around wearing a special belt with a disposable pad in. I know your pain is great right now, but I would encourage you to rescue another dog as soon as possible. It will change your life for the better, and it will certainly make an incredible difference in the dog's life. One extra day in a shelter is too long. I volunteered in a beautfiul local shelter for 7 years. Often people would come in to visit who'd lost their dogs. Often they would say to me they weren't going to get another because they couldn't go through the pain of loss again, and they also felt guilty about not morning the lost dog enough. I always told them that the people who felt shattered , were the exact people who should have a dog, and the greatest honor they could give to the dog who passed was to save another dog's life. I hope this helps you in some way.
Sandy, thank you so much for your comforting comments, I still find it very difficult coming back to see my little girls face and then reading her letter just makes the tears flow even more. I certainly do want to adopt or rescue a new or even a senior dog would be fine. I do have an extra warm spot in my heart for seniors...they need forever homes as well. Thank you again!
Hi Leslie thanks for connecting. I also have a past in aviation having flown a couple of thousand hours in small planes. I now work as a business advisor helping small companies develop their presence, but I am also very interested in the welfare of all animals.
