When a two-day-old Shetland sheep was abandoned by her mother, she had to fend for herself. Wandering about the farm, the little lamb went looking for a mother. "She had been going to up to all the other nursing ewes, and they had pushed her away," said Mary Berry, owner of Fancy Fibers Farm in Farmersville.

Saffron encountered Lucy, a Great Pyrenees who guards the livestock on the farm. "It was if she'd been asking, 'Are you my mama?'" Berry said. Berry caught the encounter on camera, as Saffron tried to nurse on top of Lucy. Lucy allowed her to climb all over her, gently nudging and encouraging the lamb along the way. When Lucy got up, the little lamb followed after her. Saffron now bottle feeds, with Lucy standing close by.
