Thanks Rosemarie. Photos of them all still really make me sad, but, I'm happy when I think that the surviving Gang Gang is probably still alive, happy and breeding...
I JUST LEFT MY COMMENT ON THIS MATTER! I READ YOUR UNFORTUNATE, but COMPELLING STORY. I COMMEND YOU ON TAKING THE NECESSARY ACTION, as their GUARDIAN to PROTECT THEM from what they CANNOT! TRUE LOVE IS SELFLESSNESS and that is ADMIRABLE and I HOPE OTHERS TAKE NOTES. SINCERELY, I FEEL for you, but I can REJOICE with you, knowing it was, "All About Them". Congrats...God Bless U & Yours, 4 EVER.
No, it was in the middle of Melbourne (Albion). Charges weren't pressed, even though they were on a Cat3 wildlife license and I spoke to the licencing guy, he said it couldn't be proven, so nothing could be done. We did send the surviving birds to live with another breeder we knew through the Avicultural Society who was also breeding GangGangs and Ecelectus, and the surving birds re-paired up and bred. Another case of moving animals to save them, I'm afraid. That was not a good house for us. (It was the same house as the Dingo Fiasco).
Did anyone press charges against that idiot next door killing those beautiful birds? And was that in the city or on the outskirts, like the countryside...
The chihuahua was over 8yo, because one of the things the newspaper said was that the dog was in the family before the girl was born, and she was 8yo. I had some seriously sick neighbours in that street - the guy immediately next door poisoned a breeding pair of Gang Gang Cockatoos with ratsak because they 'made too much noise'. Killed a 23yo egg-laying female and a male Eclectus parrot in an adjoining cage. We left, as soon as possible after all this happened. I believe the pups were kept at the sanctuary and raised there to become part of their breeding programme. They were quite valuable (breeding wise) as they were from two utterly unrelated parents who were both Black&Tan recessive carriers.
