Does your dog love you? Chances are if you love them, they love you back. But research is increasingly confirming what dog lovers already know, and that is that dogs experience feelings of love and affection. From wanting to comfort you when you are feeling upset, to sensing your moods, dogs show their affection in lots of different ways.

Here are 6 signs that your dog loves you.

1. Your dog likes sleeping with you.

Whether your dog sleeps with you at night in your bed or naps with you while you sit on the couch, if you dog wants to be asleep by your side then you are considered one of their pack.

3. Your dog wags their tail when you're around.

A wagging tail can mean lots of things. But if your dog is generally relaxed and he/she wags their tail when they see you, or wags it excitedly when you give them attention (especially wagging it to the right), then you know they’re probably very happy.

4. Your dog follows you around and is like your shadow.

Dogs love to follow their humans around and keep them in view. As they are pack animals, they really don’t like to be alone. They also don't have the concept of "personal space".

5. After eating, they love you the most.

Many dogs will enjoy a cuddle or a snooze next to you after a meal. They may prioritize food for survival, but you're a close second.

6. You love your dog.

This may seem self-evident, but it turns out that dogs reciprocate feelings. According to Dr. Gregory Berns, if you don’t love your dog, how can you expect them to return the affection? As your dog might actually sense if you love them, treat them with love and respect and you’ll get lots in return!
