Kariba was a faithful service dog to Donald Norton for a decade until last week. Tragically, a few weeks ago Donald was killed after being hit by a car while trying to cross the road in his wheelchair. The German Shepherd mix was with him when it happened and he miraculously survived.
But now Kariba needs a home. Kariba is currently with Texas Service Dogs founder Sammye Darling, who took him in after the accident. She didn't want to see him go to a shelter.
"It's been a rough couple of months for former service dog, Kariba," Sammye writes. That's because Kariba and Donald had also escaped a house fire at the beginning of February.
It's now Texas Service Dogs goal to find Kariba a home for his retirement years. As he's 12-years-old, Texas Service Dogs is adopting him out as a pet, not a working dog.
"He is potty trained, walks well on the leash, and loves car rides! He is great with other dogs and people but he does not like cats. He's a healthy senior but does have fragile hips and back legs as so daily pain medication is recommended," says the group.
