Rescued Pit bull who survived years of dogfighting finds his forever home

Bulletproof Sam

Bulletproof Sam (aka Champion Sam) is a dogfighting survivor. He was rescued along with 16 other dogs in Jacksonville, Florida in February, 2012. The 8-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier fought for most of his life and managed to survive. His face bears the scars of his hard-won survival.

Sam freed from his cage

What amazed his rescuers was how gentle Sam was despite the years of abuse he endured. He lost a portion of his face and most of his teeth. He was found locked in an underground cage.

When he was freed, he met his rescuers with a wagging tail and just wanted to be hugged. Chris Schindler from the Humane Society of the United States said, "He is a sweet dog who just wants to curl up on your lap."

Sam was nicknamed "Bulletproof Sam" after his rescue because he endured years of horrors and emerged only wanting to be loved. He went to Hello Bully, a pit bull rescue organization in Pennsylvania, where he was given lots of love and care.

A year and a bit after his rescue, Sam has officially found a forever home! On April 19, 2013 Sam has was officially adopted by a family who regularly volunteers for Hello Bully. They've been fostering him since Easter and "couldn't imagine" life without him. Bulletproof Sam's Facebook page says he joins his amazing parents, April and and John, and their two kids Andrue, 9, and Allyson, 15, along with their 4-year-old White Boxer and 2-year-old Bernese Mountain dog.

At his new home, Sam has plenty of space with his very own couch and room to nap and relax in. Most importantly he has a family to call his own.

Here's a video of Sam's rescue.

HONEY BUNCH! He will now get the best of everything, which he so richly deserves! THANK YOU for rescuing him and all the other dogs. Every single piece of F*****G shit who puts dogs through this horror is not worthy of life. Not a single breath do they deserve to draw. They are driven by greed and have no conscience at all. Good riddance!
I agree that people who engage in dog fightings should be hanged upside down, pull their teeth, pull their hair, cut their ears, cut their arms and throw in the garbage, their all garbage anyway. No matter who you are, rich or poor, white or black or yellow, or brown. You are all piece of garbage.
OMG...WHAT a FACE!!! He is a CUTIE!
I love this cutie pie. What a blessing!
god bless him and the family who have given him a loving home, this beautiful boy deserves to finally have a safe and happy life
what a wonderful dog. After everything he went through, to still be lovable.... I am sorry for what he & all the dogs went through, but thank god he was rescued.
Poor baby - I tried not 2 cry reading that article- but tear's did flow- The people who saved his life is really - wonderful people! I will keep them and -Sam in my prayers hoping some1 will adopt him soon!
Hope he has a long happy life, At least again as long so he can make up for all the years of sadness and pain.
Sam is so sweet can't believe how well natured he is after all he has been through :-)
The people who rescue dogs like these are heroes!!!
This sweet, dear boy deserves the very best that life has to offer him. I am so glad they kept him after fostering him. What a horrible life he came from along with all the other poor creatures in that despicable place! How the neighbors could not know this was going on is beyond me. I admire the rescuers so much. I know they must encounter horrible people while doing their job and it would be so hard to not lash out at every one of them. Job well done guys and gals, you are living saints on this earth. God bless you and God bless these poor animals, we are all God's creatures.
VERY happy to hear story as this about former dog fighting dog found a loving home. Every one of us can make a difference in the lives of those dogs. Putting forth our intention and effort in the creation, support and passing of laws protecting all dogs esp those who are most susceptible to dog fighting. And, make certain those who are responsible pay the price with heavy fines and/or tough prison terms. We can wish all we want. It's easy. Instead, put those wishes into action. As a dog lovers' community we do have the power to make the changes. After all, we are their voice. Their only voice. Show them we truly care by action; not just words :-)
Stories like this just make me want to go home and hug my dog! I will never understand the mindset of people who can do such horrible things like this!! So glad this dog was rescued!
Dogfighters should ALL be hanged, no matter who nor what they are. I'm glad Sam found the loving home he should have been allowed to have his entire life. Every dog has a right to be loved, and dogs who've been through hell have earned that right.
I certainly hope that the people who created hell on earth for these dogs were properly punished. I'm so glad you found your way out of that hell Sam and into the hands of people that will love you. Thank you April and John for opening your hearts and you home to this little one who so desperately needed it.
Oh Sam... Youve.stolen hearts and now you are able to feel what you craved..love. Made my day.
Glad this story has a happy ending. He deserves all the love he can get.
