Pit bull nursed back to health by man, saves rescuer in return

  • Judy the pit bull was rescued from near death

This is a truly heartwarming video of how a starving and abandoned Pit bull mix was healed by her rescuer, and later on returned the favor and helped him heal from a family tragedy.

Judy's guardian writes: "This is Judy, an amazing animal. She appeared on my doorstep barely able to move and dying of starvation. This Pit bull mix puppy lay down on my porch to give up the fight. Knowing the reputation of the breed---Killers, stupid, untrainable---I was a phone call away from having her picked up and taken to a shelter. In her condition, she would have certainly been euthanized. After a phone call to my sister, a lover and believer in all animals, I decided to try and help this puppy."

Judy's guardian adds to her story, that his sister later commited suicide and that "The last gift she gave me was the confidence that if I could get Judy back to health, she would probably be the most loyal friend I could ever have. She was right."

"I did not know that by saving her, I was saving myself from a downward spiral of grief over my sister's suicide," he writes. "Sometimes the words "they're in a better place" do not satisfy and comfort can only be had in the presence of a primal understanding. "Will you throw that ball again?"

"Sometimes you don't pick the dog...the dog picks you."

It was a blessed night that Judy picked your porch to die... and you blessed her by rescuing her and giving her a home... and now she is a blessing to you for as long as she lives! God bless you both... I am sorry you lost your sister to despair... i can only wish a dog came to her porch too and saved her from her desperation.
what a great story well done once again martha
What a heartwarming story! I am so glad Judy found you! The two of you are a perfect pair!
    P.S. I ♥ ♥ ♥ the music! Who's singing it?
What a wonderful, inspiring story and a wonderful dog! I'm so sorry for your loss, but Judy is an amazing companion!
"Sometimes you don't pick the dog...the dog picks you." And if that happens, you are fortunate indeed. You couldn't possibly be chosen by a more loving and dedicated friend who will stick by you no matter what. You can ignore him, stand him up for dinner dates, never let him pick the TV program, hog the newspaper, even yell at him for things he didn't do and he will still always be right there, with his tail going 90 mph when you arrive home from work. He will always love you, unconditionally. You know this from Judy; you can see the love in her eyes and the way she interacts with you. I would say thank you for taking her in, but I almost think it was destiny and you didn’t have a choice. My condolences for your sister, but I think Judy knew where to go, to get through to you and things went as they were supposed to go.
My condolences to you and your family about the passing of your sister. Judy IS a very special all loving gift from your sister to you. So you see your sister might have left this Earth but her spirit is alive and well in Judy.
wow we should share this every day till people get that its not the breed!
I'm very sorry for the loss of your sister. I will tell you this video brought a smile to my face. It was very enjoyable! I understand your initial fear, I went through that with my rottie. She was a great dog and was with me for 14 years. I believe it is not the breed, it's how you treat them.
This really resonates with me! The pooch in my avatar is my Boofie, who I found in a park, alone and starving and not having anything to do with anyone!! Took a long time but she is with me now and she is my baby girl. Thanks so much for giving Judy a terrific home.....many times all that they need is a chance to be good dogs. She is gorgeous!
Amazing!! I'm sorry about your sister! I have a pit and can't imagine life Without her. She does lots of tricks too. But not this many. Thanks for taking her in.
The life you save may be your own....Judy is your gift, and you were her salvation. May you both live to be old and gray!
You have shared a wonderful and sad story.... thank you. I can not say anything better than any one else that has said their comments here. I do believe that Judy chose you... she knew you would help her even though you would think of having someone pick her up and not think twice but thanks to your sister, she changed your mind and you now have a lifelong friend .... someone you will never forget.... you taught her good tricks and she learned good manners. My mother rescued a dog from a shelter... she became oveprotective of me as I am deaf and would only bark louder than normal when I am alone at home. I miss her. I now have a Chihuahua but not a rescue....nevertheless... he is my rock like Judy is your rock. He doesn't know much tricks but sit. My dog also saved me from my severe panic and anxiety attacks. I rarely have them now...so thankful to my dog, I will never be without a dog ever again. ....you shared a wondeful awesome story you have with Judy. Keep it up! Love to you both too! I am sorry about your sister. I also lost a sister and a dad... so I do know how it feels to lose someone you love.
Now thats a beautiful story... so.smart and gorgeous too.
This is really a fantastic dog and she trained up nicely....we have 6 wonder American Pit Bull Terriers and one dog-o plus my 2 cats. These are our babies and a major part of our family.
    Gold Star to you mate!
What a lovely, beautiful story. Animals have the power to heal, far beyond what we give them credit for. I am so sorry about your sister. I am very glad little Judy picked you. Thank you for rescuing this dog. Another wonderful reason why I love pitbulls/pit mixes. Such FANTATIC dogs.
