Squamish issues cougar alert after dog killed

When: 2012-04-18 07:43:00 -0700
Where: Squamish, British Columbia, Canada

Details:

The District of Squamish has issued a warning to residents after a cougar attacked a dog on Wednesday morning. The cougar was sighted near the old recycling depot on Guilford Drive in Valleycliffe where it attacked and killed a dog. The mountain lion was last seen heading into the Stawamus River dyke trail network.

To mitigate human-cougar conflict, conservation officers have closed off the Stawamus River Dyke trail and the two entrances on Valley Drive and at the south end of Westway Avenue.

Please call any cougar sightings or encounters to the Conservation Officer 24 hour hotline at:  1-877-952-7277 (RAPP) or #7277 on your cell phone.
