Squamish issues cougar alert after dog killed

The District of Squamish has issued a warning to residents after a cougar attacked a dog on Wednesday morning. The cougar was sighted near the old recycling depot on Guilford Drive in Valleycliffe where it attacked and killed a dog. The mountain lion was last seen heading into the Stawamus River dyke trail network.
To mitigate human-cougar conflict, conservation officers have closed off the Stawamus River Dyke trail and the two entrances on Valley Drive and at the south end of Westway Avenue.
