Puppy saves dog from drowning in frozen pond (VIDEO)

Dogart_thumb By Ellen | December 16, 2014 | Comments (4)

A family is calling their puppy dog a hero after she saved their older dog from drowning. The two dogs were outside playing in the backyard like they do every day when 1.5 year old Hunter got into trouble. She had wandered onto the pond out back and fallen through the ice.

Six-month-old Bentley immediately knew Hunter was in trouble and began running back and forth in the yard and barked. Thankfully, her guardian noticed Bentley was acting oddly and went to look and spotted Hunter in the pond with just her nose sticking through the ice. Hunter was safely retrieved and alive thanks to Bentley’s actions! And the family plans on keeping both dogs away from the pond from now on!

Tara, yes she is the smallest of the Swiss Mountain dog breeds. She is an Entlebucher. All dogs are smart in different areas and with different personalities. Our dog trainer was shocked Bentley did what she did at a very young age. I wanted protection on the farm here and a herder, but also a companion for us and Hunter. :-) She is amazing!
Smart pup! So glad both babies are ok. Hunter is stunning! Bentley, so stinkin cute, is she a Swissy?
Darrin we figured that out the hard way. We are hot wiring a fence the one large section. They love drinking pond water and eating ice. Lol I do not keep my eyes off them now when outside. ;-)
Dogs and ice don't go together. Dogs don't understand the concept of ice over water and the danger it represents. Dogs will run out onto ponds and frozen lakes to chase birds and end up in trouble in a heartbeat. If these were my dogs I would be building a fence. I'm glad that everyone is ok.
