A man came to the rescue of a badly injured dog on a Houston highway after he heard about her on the radio.
A female dog was spotted in an outbound HOV lane on the Eastex Freeway early Friday. She was lying in the middle of the road. Rickey Young heard it announced on the radio and decided to do something to help.

He told KHOU News, "I’m just kind of a softie on that kind of stuff," he said. "I have a dog, and I’d hate to see him on the highway like that."
The father and construction worker drove to the spot and climbed into the HOV lane of the highway from an underpass and tried to coax the yellow Labrador Retriever mix over to him. She was too afraid at first and wouldn't come to him. So he grabbed his sandwich, and managed to lure her over. He got a hold of her and put her in his truck.
"I could see that she was thankful and she was happy to be in a safer environment," he said.
He rushed her to the Houston SPCA, who said that Rickey brought her to them just in time. Their vet said the stray dog had life-threatening internal bleeding and broken bones and likely would have died if she had not been rescued.
But thanks to Rickey, the dog has a second chance.
