Devoted Dachshund refuses to leave paralyzed cat's side (VIDEO)

Idgie refused to leave the disabled cat as the two were lying by a busy road.

A Dacshund who was abandoned with a disabled kitten last October steadfastly refuses to leave her companion's side. The two were found dumped together at the bottom of a driveway by Seminole County Animal Services in Florida. Idgie, a 2-year-old Dachshund growled and protected Ruth when they approached. The 7-month-old cat did not have use of her legs and could only drag herself to move.

They were taken to the shelter and since then have been inseparable. Named after the characters in Fried Green Tomatoes, Idgie is devoted to Ruth. If she gets a new toy she will take it over to Ruth to show her. If another dog approaches, she puts herself between the dog and Ruth. And if Ruth is taken somewhere without her she gets very upset.

Thankfully, they found a new home together with Jacqueline Borum, who has fostered and found adoptive homes for thousands of dogs and cats over the years. She also runs Hollywood Houndz Boutique & Spa and that's where Idgie and Ruth hang out. They share a large pen by the front window where they snuggle and play together. The two get lots of love and attention from the entire staff and are the darlings of customers who come in. Borum told the Orlando Sentinel, "I mean, we've seen friendships between dogs and cats before, but never anything like this."

What a special bond. Even tho Ruth has her disability, Idgie has taken upon herself to mother the kitty and Ruth doesn't realize she's different. So glad they decided to keep them together where they get loads of love and attention. Sad beginning but a story with a happy ending. :0)
Very touching.....the wonders God bestows on these blessed creatures is undeniably embraced by this animal lover. Sheer love and acceptance. Just beautiful.
It doesn't suprise me that Idgie is so protective of Ruth. For someone to just abandon a disabled kitten and a dog like that it's not a giant leap to assume that they have seen the darker side of human nature. When animals go through something traumatic like that all they have is each other. I wonder was the vet not able to diagnose Ruth because the test was judged to be to invasive or were they stumped? I'm glad that these two have found their way out of that terrible situation and are being cared for. Thank for taking these two under your wing Jacqueline, you're a life saver. Well done.
