Heroic dog leads police to his unconscious owner and saves man's life

  • Thanks to his faithful dog, a 57-year-old man who was involved in a car crash that left him unconscious in a wooded area is alive and well.

a diabetic man's dog helped save himWhen Charles Anderson disappeared from his home, his daughter feared for his safety and called South Strabane police in Pennsylvania. Friends had seen Charles leave his home and said he appeared "out of it". She told authorities her father probably was with his constant companion, his Border Collie Sammy.

Police called Charles' cell phone company and used the GPS tracking device to trace his location. They traced the signal to Northgate Shopping Mall and found his truck crashed into two parked vehicles in the rear of the mall's parking lot. But they could not find Charles.

Police were searching the parking lot around the accident scene when Sammy appeared. One officer approached the dog who led him to Charles, who was lying in the weeds in a wooded area nearby. He was hypothermic, unresponsive and his blood sugars were frighteningly high. Police believe Charles had been there for several hours with Sammy by his side the entire time.

Charles as taken to hospital where he is currently recovering.
