Three-legged hurricane survivor whose owner passed away finds new loving home

  • Three-legged hurricane survivor looking for new home after owner passes away

A very special Williamston, NC, dog is hoping to find a new home. After getting injured in Pitt County during a hurricane, Ajax had to have his leg amputated. However, he got lucky when Freda Hamilton of Martin County adopted him.

Ajax is currently being cared for by the Williamston Veterinary Hospital while they help search for the perfect home for him. Ajax may be best suited for an older couple or a woman.

    Update November 7, 2012

Hurricane Sandy this past week highlights how important it is to check with local shelters and rescue organizations to see if there are ways to help dogs in need. After Ajax lost his leg during a hurricane in North Carolina, he was adopted by a loving elderly woman. When she passed away, he went up for adoption again. Happily Sharon Ambrose posted a wonderful update as to what happened to Ajax.

She commented, "My elderly, widowed mom took Ajax and he is getting proper spoiling. We absolutely love him, and I don't worry as much because mom has company. Not much of a watch dog. He waaay prefers laps and covers than getting all upset about nothing! :o). Thought you'd like to know!"

Rebecca, I will look into those breeds. Actually, bless Ajax for bringing my mom a reason to take walks, have someone to come home to, and to have someone to tell she loves them (besides me of course!). I thank my husband for somehow that day seeing the news feature on Ajax while he was at the coast. Life is good!
Sharon Ambrose, bless your mom for giving Ajax a loving home. By his appearance I believe he is a Carolina Dog/American Dingo at least in good part. If not already aware of this breed, which is truly a national treasure, I encourage you to check them out with some research. They are incredibly amazing animals and make such wonderful companions. Best of happiness with the new family member.
I'm happy someone made a new life. Good luck Ajax.
