A pair of dogs look out for an orphaned baby squirrel

Nick Radford was out shooting photographs in the woods when he came across a baby squirrel in distress. Severely dehydrated and hypothermic, the ground squirrel was clinging to his mother, who appeared to have been killed by a car. Nick took the tiny animal home to save his life and named him Apple Moonbeam.

Nick's two dogs, Maverick and Scout, immediately took an interest in Apple Moonbeam and Nick says his dogs have adopted him.

Awesome story and pictures/video. I hope your treated with just as much kindness in your life as you have treated this little squirrel by bringing him into your home/family. :)
Maybe the most adorable thing I've ever seen. Good doggies! :)
Nick, you are a very kind man with kind dogs. Thanks for taking the extra step and caring for this squirrel.
Wow... what an amazing story.. I wish I could rehab a squirrel. I have always loved them but I would never take them away from their natural habitat if they did not need any help. I am so grateful that you saved this squirrel and what a beautiful name you gave her. Her new siblings are great at being careful with her... I noticed they were nervous a bit when she tried to cuddle with them. They need warmth a lot and I agree with Shonna.... look into the website for info to care for them. You have done a great job so far!!! Keep it up!
As a squirrel rehabber, I'd like to say, "welcome to the squirrel family!" I'd also like to refer you to The Squirrel Board...a place to learn everything you need to take care of that little one. Please please please order yourself some Fox Vally squirrel formula. The little one needs it. Also, keep all nuts to a minimum as they are not good for squirrels. They are more like dessert and the magnesium can suck the calcium from squirrels' bones, giving them Metabolic Bone Disease. Feel free to email me on the squirrel board with any questions. Screen name on there is Shonnuf.
What a great name, Apple Moonbeam. I don't think that I would trust my dogs with this little squirrel. Well done Nick, thanks for respecting this little life. Your dogs are beautiful.
my friends and i adore this story!!! please start a blog and/or facebook page for Apple Moonbeam & her new siblings! i for one would be a fan and so would all my K9 friends & family! :)
