More about DogHeirs: the social utility for people who love dogs

  • So you've signed up to DogHeirs, set up your profile, uploaded a few pictures and browsed around the site. Now what? DogHeirs is all about celebrating life with dogs as members of the family, improving canine health and safety and helping dogs in need, so get involved! Committed dog lovers are the best breed of human!

Add a profile for your dog. Click on "My Dogs" to add and manage your dog profiles. By completing your dog's profile you will have easy-to-access health records (such as vaccinations, nutritional regimes, medical reports) when you need them, for the next time you travel away from home with your pet, leave your dog in the care of others while your away, or have to make an emergency trip to the clinic. You can also access our Lost Dog Report tools if your dog ever goes missing to aid in recovery. For those involved in rescue work, you can also create profiles for adoptable dogs, which are highlighted on our community page!

Participate in the NeighborHound Watch. Located under "My NeighborHood" NeighborHound Watch broadcasts safety alerts that affect our best four-legged friends (such as food and product recalls, wildlife sightings, disease outbreaks, and more). You can post alerts yourself to warn fellow dog guardians in your area. Alerts can localized and set for a neighborhood (within a 50 km radius), a city, or even a country. You can also view dogs that may be lost in your area. By clicking on a lost dog, the dog's information and latest search details will be listed.

Connect with members on DogHeirs. Visit the "Community" page to see the latest activity and members on DogHeirs. DogHeirs also provides a platform for you to connect with other members and a forum to ask questions and share information. You can also share photos, videos and fun details about your dog(s) for our members to enjoy.

Add Connections to your Network. Either invite people you already know, or click on the "Add To My Network" link under a member's profile photo if you would like to connect with them. When they accept you'll be able to see their posts and activities on your "Home" page and vise versa.

Share your expertise, stories and questions on all things dog and dog-related. Under "Articles" you will find articles and groups on various health and safety related topics (Categories) as well as general news and community-related topics shared under Community News. Don't be shy to share a story or ask a question. We're all here to learn something new and to help people make informed decisions about caring for their pets. It's also a powerful way to facilitate positive change and support one-another, so if you have a story to tell, a lesson that can be learned or a tip to share, please write a post about it.

Recognize or Recommend and Get Recommended. Harness the power of positivity. If you're happy with a person, product, service, or organization, recommend them! Simply click on the "Recommend" button under a member or organization's profile photo to post up your positive feedback. Don't be shy to ask people who have worked or collaborated with you to give you a recommendation too. You can also thank people for a generous act of kindness, contribution or something they have done for you. Click on "Thank" under their profile photo and you'll give them the recognition they deserve. It's all good karma!

    Thanks for the question K.C.

As our focus is on canine disease, we are redesigning our site to cater to communities interested in specific disorders. You can search for members with similar interests if they have joined the designated group, asked a question or written a blog post for a specific disorder, all listed under “Research”, with the categories listed on the right.

You can also find members who own dogs that are the same breed as you may be interested in by searching through the breed list on the right hand side of the page under “Find”.

We are also working on adding a small subsection to the “Explore” page to introduce new members to the general DogHeirs community. Look for that new section soon, it should be placed above the grey section listing recent activities.

This article was writted before our most recent changes, so we should probably update this post - thanks for reminding us! Feel free to let us know what you think and if you have any trouble finding anything.

    Kind regards,

    The DogHeirs Team
