Dogs Allowed

For new dog guardians thinking of adding a dog to your family, here are a few guidelines to help you understand how humans and dogs may better coexist. For those of you who have lived a year or two with a furry friend, this is just here as a reminder! ;-)

Dogs Rules For Beginners

1. The dog is not allowed in the house.
2. Okay, the dog is allowed in the house, but only certain rooms.
3. The dog is allowed in all rooms, but has to stay off the furniture.
4. The dog is only allowed on the old furniture.
5. Fine, the dog is allowed on all the furniture, but is not allowed to sleep with the humans on the bed.
6. All right, the dog is allowed on the bed, but only by invitation.
7. The dog can sleep on the bed whenever he wants, but not under the covers.
8. The dog can sleep under the covers by invitation only.
9. The dog can sleep under the covers every night.
10. Humans must ask permission to sleep under the covers with the dog!
11. In all cases of dispute...the dog rules!

Dog Laws

1. If I like it, it's mine.
2. If it's in my mouth, it's mine.
3. If I can take it from you, it's mine.
4. If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.
5. If it's mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way.
6. If I'm chewing something up, all the pieces are mine.
7. If it just looks like mine, it's mine.
8. If I saw it first, it's mine.
9. If you are playing with something and you put it down, it automatically becomes mine.
10. If it's broken, it's yours

Ten Commandments

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
10 On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone.

Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

I hadn`t seen that the last "Thing" in Dog-rules are a bit different here in DK. Here it says : All right, the dog can sleep, snore and fart in the bed, but it can´t sleep on the couch "in the living room" be cause there I sleep now. ;-) Sorry for my horrible English, it sounds quite fun in Danish. :-) The 10 commands i´ve got it hanging on my wall for many years now but i´ve also had dogs for over 40years so "not much is new under the sun for me. ;-)
Okey..That i understand. ;-) Thank you for your FAST answer.. :-)
Hi Anita, the copyright message is programmed to appear automatically under the articles we have authored, but obviously does not apply to this particular article. :-)
How can i be you write "copyright" under Dog ruls + the 2 other "Laws" ? I´ve got those rules on all my dogs profiles on a dogpage here in Denmark for around 9 years, so how can it suddenly be yours ? I´m just curious. :)
I just love my dogs...all dogs..awww
