“Meet Baby, the dog with the saddest cries you’ll ever hear.” That’s how Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center introduces this heartbreaking video of Baby at their shelter.
The white and brown American Pit Bull and Dalmatian mix was dropped off by the owner recently, and has taken on a nightly ritual that’s heart-wrenching to see.
“Baby was brought to our shelter recently by her owner, the only family she has ever known,” MCASAC explains. “[They] felt that they could not care for her any longer.”
Since she arrived, Baby has cried herself to sleep every night. “Baby, while very sweet and mild mannered, has not been adjusting well to living in a shelter,” MCASAC writes.
“At night, Baby cries out in her kennel. Our dog kennel area, which is usually filled with lots of loud barking, becomes silent other than Baby’s cries.”
“Baby is 7 years old and very shy. She is wary of new people, but is just nervous, not aggressive. However, once she’s spent a little while with a new person, she opens up and enjoys snuggling and being pet.”
“Baby is stressed and sad, so please help us find a new home for her!”
Since posting the video, the shelter has had someone call and offer to sponsor Baby’s adoption fee.
They are optimistic that the sweet dog (who is good with other dogs and kids) will find a home.

They also said they are located in Derwood, Maryland and in order to be considered for adoption, prospective adopters will need to first visit their shelter, fill in an application and speak to an adoption counselor. They can be emailed at [email protected].
