A dog was captured on security footage coming to the rescue of another dog struggling in a pool. In the clip, Smokey, the black dog in the pool is trying to get out, frantically doggie paddling and putting a paw on the pool’s edge.
The other dog, Remus, appears to be trying to lead Smokey to the shallower end, but after he is unsuccessful, he jumps into the water to help push the struggling dog out.
Said Remus’ mom, Kayla Becerra, “My lifeguard pupparoo Remus saves my moms dog Smokey from drowning. My parents surveillance camera caught it all. My dad stepped inside while the dogs were playing outside and noticed Smokey was all wet and knows he doesn’t get in the water that far so he went back and saw the incredible moment! I’m a proud dog Momma.”
Her mom described, “Remus, my daughter’s dog, and Smokey, our dog were in backyard. We let the dogs in and notice Smokey was wet. So we wondered if he got into pool. Well when I reviewed the security cameras, we saw that Smokey was struggling to get out. That’s when it seemed that Remus was trying to direct Smokey to the steps. Remus did this a few times, then ended up jumping in to nudge Smokey out of pool.”
Pools pose a danger to pets and wild animals. It is recommended to never leave animals or children unattended by a pool. Also consider teaching your dog how to swim and exit a pool to avoid the possibility of them getting into trouble.
