Fearful Senior Shiba Inu Learns To Love Again

Dc_sir_logo_side_icon_thumb By DC Shiba Inu Rescue | October 11, 2016 | Comments (1)

created on: 2016-10-10This is Aneko.

She's a senior Shiba Inu who was taken off the streets by Animal Control. The handlers in the shelter were quick to realize fearful and untrusting Aneko wasn't going to be easy to care for. She would snap and howl at all who tried to touch her, and she soon found herself on the euthanasia list.

That's when DC Shiba Inu Rescue, a dog rescue located in Washington, D.C. that specializes in Shiba Inus and other primative breeds, volunteered to take her in. DC SIR knows that force-free positive reinforcement training works, especially for fearful and reactive dogs like Aneko.

See the difference below!

After several months of working with her, Aneko has made amazing progress. Although she still doesn't appreciate being carried and can feel uncomfortable being harnessed or leashed, she seeks out attention from humans and responds amazingly to treats and praise. Aneko is currently available for adoption as of October 10th, 2016!

Please share her story so that other can see that kindness, patience, and understanding can save lives!
