About Bear

Name: Bear
Breed: Keeshond
Color: Black with white
Sex: M
Date Of Birth: 2003-09-07
Description: Bear is actually a Keeshond X. His dad was a purebred Keeshond and his mom was a border collie, husky, terrier mix. I rescued both parents from abuse. The mother was adopted out, and the father I had up until he died of old age on December 13, 2006. Right now I am fund-raising to get the money for a much needed surgery. He has a unilateral hernia in his colon making it hard for him to pass stool. He was treated with laxatives and special diets but they are no longer working and he needs surgery now. Bear has most of the traits of his father - loving, playful. He is black with off-white coloured fur on his neck and stockings. He also has little white markings above his eyes, like eyebrows. His profile pic is when he was about 8 months old. He weighs about 50 pounds.

Diet

Type Item Brand Notes
Prescription only Medi Cal High Intensity Gastro Intestinal Medi Cal I cup food twice daily soaked for 10 minutes in warm water then 1/2 tablespoon of Metamucil mixed in. He absolutely hates it so the vet has changed the water to chicken broth and it seems to have worked. His weight has varied since he started in March of 2011, but that should change after his surgery. The diet is life long now.

Comments About Bear

HELLO, BEAR! CHLOE, & I, WERE GLAD TO SEE THAT YOU WERE SELECTED AS DOGANTHROPIST OF THE DAY! YOU ARE A VERY HANDSOME BOY! WE HOPE YOU HAD A WONDERFUL DAY, & RECEIVED A DELICIOUS TREAT!
Bear has a FB page too. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Help-Bear/311323908886576 I was raising funds through Indiegogo but it ended on Friday. I am still raising funds through his blog and website by Paypal donation now. I'm still about $500.00 short but I'm hoping the vet will work with me for that. Bear goes into the vets tomorrow morning to get his neutering done (finally!!) They didn't want to do it because of the hernia before. They will also be giving him a good clean out and the surgeon is going to be on hand to do a full rectal exam while he's knocked out so that he knows exactly what he is doing for the surgery. I'm just hoping that he isn't going to raise the price. I'm on pins and needles right now. I still have to wait for the funds to come in before they will do the surgery - about 2 weeks and they're closed over Xmas so I may be waiting until the New Year! Yikes!! I hate this waiting. Bear's blog is: http://www.animalstories-cheryl.blogspot.com/ The website is http://www.helpingbear.weebly.com Thanks for your comment. Bear and Lady do sound alike!!!
You're very welcome! My Lady is a 50 pound lap dog, too. All she wants to do is snuggle up close and cuddle...Bear sounds very much like her!!! Does he have a Chip-In or website where you're raising funds for his surgery? Lady has a FB page and I'd love to share him on it to help if you still need it. Hope he's doing okay health-wise right now : )
Thank you!! He is an absolute doll and he knows it. He likes to prance like a show pony whenever someone shows up. He's a show stopper and I think it has gone to his head. But then he just loves attention! A 50 pound lapdog!!
Bear is so handsome!
