The Chihuahua is small, fine boned and delicate yet has a tough attitude and personality. They have a round head, large triangular ears that are pointed upwards and a long, thin muzzle. Graceful, alert and swift-moving with a saucy expression, Chihuahuas are highly intelligent and should not be underestimated even though small in size. These sassy little dogs are well known as "purse dogs".
The Chihuahua originated in Mexico and was bred to be a companion to people. Some believe the breed originated from the Fennec Fox. They were named after the Mexican state “Chihuahua” and are classified as the smallest dog of the entire canine species! The breed can be any color – solid, marked or splashed and the coat may be long or short.
